Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG Art Series Lens Review

The following is the transcript of our Sigma 35mm Art Series Lens Review.
Hello Photographers, Tom here from Cameras Direct with another Sigma Art Series Lens Review.

Today we’re going to talk about the amazing Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG Art Series Lens

The “DG” stands for full frame with Sigma that means it will go on any Nikon or Canon full-frame digital SLR. The 35mm Art Lens will also mount onto cropped sensor Nikon or Canon which turns the 35mm into a 50mm / 55mm f1.4 lens.

So what makes these Sigma Art Series lenses so talked about in the photographic industry?

For starters, build quality. The build quality on the Art Series is superb – very similar to the L Series build quality of your Canons and the premium range of Nikons. The 35mm is regrettably not a weather sealed lens, the sports series of Sigma lenses come with with weather sealing but certainly mechanically it is a lovely lovely lens. The 35mm is well constructed, very solid, quite a heavy lens.

Optically unbelievable. The focus ring on these is also superb so if you do prefer to manually focus even though this is an AF lens it is very smooth.

So what makes this lens so good? Well the optical design – this is probably, I shouldn’t say probably, when it’s actually is the sharpest 35mm 1.4 auto focus lens on the market.

It has surpassed the Nikon and Canon versions of this lens.

The sharpness particularly wide open and from center to edge. It really is superb. It also gives an amazing background blur very soft lovely de-focused backgrounds.

35mm focal range is very good on full frame cameras for the street photographer. It’s a semi wide-angle format so basically for the street photographer or for your wedding photographer who’s doing the group portrait or environmental portraits can also be used to sort of travel photography where you doing landscapes and so on. 35mm doesn’t give you the distortion of the the super wide and the ultra wide angle lenses.

Optically again I can’t tell you how sharp this 35mm Art lens is. The lens is also half the price of the Nikon or Canon 35mm f/1.4 lenses.

So if you have always wanted that Professional Series quality from a prime lens like a 35mm, and you couldn’t afford it before, well now you can. These are as I say, half the price.

Finish off the lens with a 67mm filter, which obviously we recommend to protect the beautiful piece of front glass on these. A UV filter will also seals the end of the lens against dust and salt. The lens comes with a lens hood and a soft case.

Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG Art Series Lens for Canon and Nikon. The best 35mm on the market.
