Hello Photographers, Tom here from Cameras Direct with another Sigma Art Series Lens Review.

Today we’re going to have a look at the new Sigma 24mm f1.4 Art Series Lens.

The Sigma Art Series of lens has been around for quite a while now and as you know from my previous reviews, the Art Series lenses are simply stunning.

Sigma Art lenses are the sharpest prime and zoom lenses you can buy on the market and for about half the price of the the big  manufacturers options. So it makes them extremely good value for money and very very popular with amateur and professional photographers alike.

The 24mm f/1.4 Art Series is no different in quality.

It is a “DG” lens which designates it as a full frame lens for full-frame digital SLRs and you can use the DG lenses on cropped sensor Nikon and Canon DSLR’s.

In fact that would make it around about a 36mm f/1.4 lens which puts it in the realm of the street photography.

35mm semi wide angle is a beautiful focal length for street photography and a very very popular focal length with a lot of photographers particular with baby photographers, wedding photographers and so on.

At f/1.4 its a fast lens that lets in a lot of light and at 1.4 for it is usable, meaning it is sharp at 1.4 in the centre and pretty well all the way out to the edges as well. When you “stop it down” though of course and the scene gets extremely extremely sharp.

In fact again as usual the Sigma Art Series lenses have become, one of the sharpest lens on the market.

This 24mm is no different, to go along with its 35mm and 50mm Art Series this is at the top of the tree.

Being an Art Series it’s not a light lens, it’s quite heavy but very very well constructed. .

The Sigma 24mm Art lens takes a 77mm filter size and we would highly recommend a quality UV filter. They are a very industrial design, as all the Art Series are. Plain to look at but again nice and solid. The Art  series lenses aren’t weather sealed unfortunately but the price is just spectacular. This is a lens that we recommend for any of you street photographers, wedding photographers, portrait photographers or those who like to do environmental portraits, baby photographers.

We also tend to find this very popular as well when used with a crop sensor. Certainly though if you have a full frame this is a wide angle lens which is spectacular for architecture indoor/outdoor, landscapes, all those sort of things where you need a wider perspective.

In fact a 24mm gives you about a 86 degree diagonal field of view.

So I can’t say anything bad about these lenses they are amazing.

If you want sharpness then the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 1.4 is one of the sharpest wide-angle lenses that you can buy.

Sigma have done it again.
